Mexico BESS Market Monitor

Updated

By Ivan Ortiz Rafael & Claudio Alemany · Optimus Consulting · Week 44, 20–26 October 2026 · updated 26 October 2026

OPTIMUS publishes a weekly Mexico BESS market monitor for the SIN: up to four qualified nodes from our CENACE watchlist, hourly MDA PML and MTR PML, achievable 4h spreads, congestion diagnostics, and a screening decision (advance / watchlist / do not advance). Values are MXN-first; USD in parentheses uses 18.41 MXN/USD (Banxico FIX close used for display conversion in the pipeline; rate configured in the run of 26 October 2026).

Data cutoff: 2026-10-26 (America/Mexico_City). Analysis window: 21 days of CENACE SW-PML history ending on the cutoff. Catalog (NodoP, LDE corridor screen): 01PLO-115, 03CLN-230, 03FRN-115, 03GTO-115, 03LDE-230, 03SLW-115, 04AHO-115, 06GDL-115 (all probed with MDA data on 2026-10-25). Published nodes: four highest-ranked in this edition. Screening assumption: 1 cycle/day.

Summary

Leader 01PLO-115, BESS score 78/100. Achievable 4h spread 578.8 MXN/MWh (31.4 USD/MWh). Annualized 4h gross screening value 845.0 MXN/kW-year (45.9 USD/kW-year). CDR 14% — minor congestion effect on the spread. Decision: advance to detailed model at this screening threshold.

Congestion material hours use a common window across published nodes (up to 21 days). Six- and eight-hour figures in the full report are an upper-bound duration ceiling, outside the fixed achievable 4h window.

What this is not

This monitor is market screening, not a bankable model. For a Mexico Report Case with project finance metrics, see the bankability assessment, the Mexico market page, project finance lenders, or contact us.

Questions

Is this a bankable Mexico BESS model?
No. The monitor is a weekly CENACE screening product (1 cycle/day). It does not include IRR, debt sizing, capacity payments, Clean Energy Certificates (CELs), or signed transmission constraints.
What does CDR mean in the report?
Congestion dependency ratio (CDR): the share of the gross 4h spread attributed to the congestion component in the optimal block. The report states whether congestion is supporting or working against the spread.
